Being that one person who is a known leader is important as a business owner, especially when you start seeing the fruits of your labor, which is a moment, a purpose to keep on living. You need to think about what qualities are important to be a great leader in your industry much like a rookie of the year. In this post, I’ll cover some traits for leadership, no matter if you’re running a humble startup, a multi-national corporation or if your just a kid out of school.
Focus on winning battles, not wars… at least for now
As you go about winning the battles throughout the year, see it as building from the ground up, which is a great visual that inspires intensity and vigor for the rest of your team. No matter how big your dreams, your goals, your vision, never lose sight of it. You should even make it policy to lay each brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid. It’s all about teaching everyone how to work better, how to be a part of the team, when to relax, when to shift it into overdrive, basically being the best person they can be. If you stick to this mentality, the wars won will soon be a result of your hard work.
Relationships are key
The best tip I can give you is to have patience, in simple terms. You’re going to be in situations where you’re down and out, with your business on the brink of bankruptcy before you get to where you need to go, seeking advice from anyone who’ll give their time and kind of hanging on to life, like any successful company in its early days. You’re going to have to give up so much of yourself in the short-term before you can live the life you want. Even though you want to rush right in and change the universe to some updated new version, it’s a time to periodically step back and see how you can adapt to the changing times.
You have to have good vibes, a positive outlook, and the entrepreneurial mindset if you want your business to make out in the end. And above all, being the new kid on the block, you’re going to have share your vision, your dream, on how to break through into the unknown. You’re going to have meet with your people regularly to make sure they’re not straying away from the pack, to see how they’re holding up emotionally/mentally, what’s irking them, and to see if you’re agreeing to their new ideas, it’s always about the relationship. This is one of the tenets in business and life, no matter what you’re creating.
Leadership is translucent
The best leaders play hard in business and life. In my own situation, I honestly believe that how you work reflects how you live, but it’s also something that very few seem to possess. No matter what industry you cater to, if you’re the man in command or the one blazing trails for your company, you need to:
These traits just briefly describe what it truly takes to be a success in life and what you have in common with others like yourself.
Know when to crack the whip
A deep understanding of various personalities and thought processes of the people on your team, and even the company in general is mandatory. When you’re the head honcho, the ability to form everlasting relationships with all sorts of people to know their dreams and goals is paramount, not just for your sake, but for the sake of all involved. You kind of have to hit it off right from the start, no matter who it is. You have to know how to manage people in a way that feels like breathing because you’re the one person with a perspective greater than all, and knowing this is always a step in the right direction. This is what separates you from the rest.
See obstacles before they’re obstacles
As a business owner, you must see billions, nay, trillions of different ways into the future, which is one of the reasons so few are ever successful. Always painting a detailed picture to your investors or team to see what you see before it’s actually real, whether in a meeting, talking over lunch or at a trade event is what’ll make you a success. And once more, that’s what business coaches preach about 24/7. So being at the ready, but also teaching your people what could happen is what the greatest people in the world have in common.
Respect the respectable
So, what’ll make you one of best leaders? I believe how you struggled, how you fought your way up, how hard you worked throughout your career and seeing that in others demands respect. When it’s all said and done, I believe it’s always about keeping your eyes on the prize and working towards it no matter how beat down you are. People will be at ease knowing that the leader, the one who defeated the devil and lived to tell about it, knows how to get through something that might seem as a big problem to others. Above all, you need to make your people feel like they can find refuge in your spirit when times are tough, especially in humanity’s current state of being.
